Since a few years, much to our delight, we notice that the afro hair is more & more present in the fashion industry. Many models, men and women as well, wear proudly their natural hair in miscellaneous advertising campaigns & catwalks. It took such a long time to see the fashion world breaks its Western capillary beauty criterias that it tried to impose on black & mixed models for a long time. Most of the times, they don’t have the choice but to face hairdressers who don’t have any skills in the care suited to afro hair. As a result, they have to add systematically some extensions, relaxers and/or use flat irons to make their hair “easier to comb”. It’s not surprising that certain blacks models bring their own make up materials as well their own hair products during the shootings & high fashion shows ! The model Leomie Anderson always makes sure to bring her own products to ensure the needs of her hair are met. She said in the daily newspaper The Guardian : “Sometimes hair stylists take offence if I bring my own hair products, but they have to be conscious that we do have different needs.”
